Launch of multi-factor authentication for DB members

24 Mar 2025

We’ve introduced multi-factor authentication (MFA) to protect your data and help make using your myESPS account even more secure.

Members of the defined benefit (DB) section can use myESPS to manage their pension online, including checking the details of their pension record and viewing statements. Similar services are available for defined contribution (DC) members via LifeSight.

If you are a DB member and already have a myESPS account, you can read more about logging in following the launch of MFA below.

If you are a DB member and do not already have a myEPS account, you can register quickly and easily on the registration page. You will need the activation code that was posted to you previously. If you can’t find it please email netenquiries@railpen.com to request one, you will need to include your pension reference number.

Logging in to your myESPS account with MFA

When you log in to myESPS for the first time following the launch of MFA, you will need to provide a mobile phone number. This can be a number registered in the UK, or abroad, but must be one you have easy access to, because you will need to use it every time you log in.

A verification code will then be sent to the mobile phone number you have provided, and you will need to enter that code before you can log into myESPS.

Once you have completed this process, your mobile number will be saved to your myESPS account. Each time you log in, a new verification code will be sent to that saved number, and you will need to enter it to be able to access your account.

The addition of MFA is designed to increase the security of your myESPS account and protect your personal data. Your username and password are not affected, and you should continue to use these as normal.
